Our story

Built by women, for the way you actually wear a saree.

Drape & Define began at a Bengaluru wedding where the saree was perfect and the shapewear was misery. We set out to fix that — quietly, carefully, and made in India. What you wear underneath should disappear. Your saree, and your day, should not.

The beginning

A small idea, stitched in Bengaluru.

For most Indian women, the saree is not an outfit. It is a memory of our mothers tucking pleats, of our grandmothers pinning a pallu before temple, of weddings that run from breakfast to fireworks. And yet, year after year, the petticoat or shapewear underneath was an afterthought — rough at the waist, stiff in the heat, riding up by the time you reached the mandap.

We started Drape & Define in 2023 with one promise: every layer should serve the saree, not fight it. Our first prototype went through forty-two rounds with women in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kochi — including bridesmaids, working professionals, new mothers, and women in their seventies who have draped a saree every day of their adult lives.

What we learned is simple. Indian women want comfort first. We want a smooth silhouette without feeling squeezed. We want fabric that breathes through Chennai humidity and a December evening in Delhi. We want sizing that does not stop at L, and a price that does not insult our intelligence. And we want it made here, by people who understand a saree the way we do.

So that is what we built. Drape & Define is designed in India, sewn in small Karnataka units that pay fairly, and tested by the women who will wear it. We are still small. We will stay honest. And every piece that leaves our studio is one we would happily wear ourselves — to a Tuesday meeting, a niece’s wedding, or a long, slow Sunday lunch.

What we stand for

Four things we will not compromise on.

Comfort first

Soft waistbands, no-itch seams, four-way stretch. If you wouldn’t wear it for nine hours, we don’t make it.

Made in India

Designed in Bengaluru, sewn in Karnataka units that pay fairly and source fabric within the country.

Inclusive sizing

True XS to XXL across every style, with measurements written by women who actually wore the samples.

Honest pricing

One fair price, no inflated MRPs, no theatrics. ₹1,499 — the same on Monday as on a sale weekend.

I grew up watching my amma drape a saree in four minutes flat, and I have never seen her uncomfortable in one. The shapewear underneath was the only thing she ever complained about. Drape & Define is my answer to that complaint — a quiet, well-made layer that lets the saree do what it has always done. Make us feel like ourselves.
